If you have a house that you plan to live in for a while, where you wish to settle down and create a life and have a family, chances are you want it to look up to date, and modern, so you can take pride in your living space. To do that, there are some simple, and affordable ways, that will make your home look just a little better than it is.

1. Add Texture

Sometimes, if you live in a house with plain walled rooms, you tend to get bored of them, and want to add a pop of texture. One easy, inexpensive way to do this is if you buy plywood, in larges pieces, and cut them into strips yourself to reduce expenses. And then, use your leftover wall paint to paint over the wood, before putting it onto your walls. This adds a nice accent to your room, and makes it look just a little more well decorated.

2. Front Doors

A front door is the first thing someone looks at when they come to your house. To make it look fun and cute, you can paint it from the dull brown color it came as to something more bright and happy, like a nice shade of yellow, or even a more pastel toned color. If painting isn’t the way you want to go, add a wreath, or a cute door handle!

3. More Storage?

If your house lacks storage, and all your belongings are always stacked around the house looking messy, there is a simple solution, and that is to get cabinets. You may be a bit skeptical about how one can buy a cabinet for less than $100 dollars, but it is doable! All you have to do is go to your local Habitat of Humanity Restore Shop, and you can find handy cabinets for about $20, which you can install above your washer and dryer, or anywhere else you find spare room.

Another way to make more storage space, is to install wooden boards attached to your walls, and buy storage bins to put atop of them, where you can store things like towels, or extra clothes.

4. Sprucing up Your Staircase

Are you bored of your carpeted staircase? An easy way to improve it is to have the carpets removed, and have them sanded, primed and painted a simple color to match the color scheme of your house. If you want to make it a little more fancy, you can buy a seagrass runner, and staple it to your staircase, which will help with the aesthetic of your home.

5. Vintage Flooring

If you live in an old house, thats been around since the 70’s, chances are the front of the house has linoleum flooring, and it is not something you’re into. All you need to do to brighten this problem up, is paint over it! You can do two different colors for added design, or even just one simple shade.
